The need for a global, robust, and universally applicable electronic organizational identity (Org eID) has long been recognized. However, to date, this need has been inadequately addressed. Furthermore, there have been few systematic attempts to understand and define what an Org eID is, what requirements it should meet, what technological capabilities we have today or will need in the future to implement such a system, what regulations are applicable and/or affected, and how it can be anchored in the existing legal system.

Diego Benz and Julia Buergi, together with V. Suvorov, D. Saeuberli, C. Schneider, and A. Kech, address all of these questions and, wherever possible, provide an analysis and a thorough description of achievable, practical solutions. They also highlight open questions and offer their assessment of where further research is needed.
